CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction

For people who are looking for a method to target and get rid of areas of fat on their body, there are various treatments and methods available. Two popular choices for people are CoolSculpting and liposuction. There are definitely differences between these two treatments. From cost to downtime, and invasive to non-invasive. Being informed of your best option is extremely helpful to you as a patient.

At Source Medical Aesthetics we offer CoolSculpting Elite® as a method of targeted fat loss for our patients. For many people this is a preferred method and has several benefits over procedures like liposuction.

Non-Invasive vs. Invasive

This is a key difference and a deciding factor for many patients. CoolSculpting is considered a non-invasive treatment. There is no surgery, anesthesia, or incisions required for CoolSculpting to be effective. Instead an applicator is applied that grips to the chosen area. Patients will feel a light suction pressure followed by intense cold as the treatment begins.

Liposuction on the other hand is a surgical procedure, and as such will require anesthesia,(general or local) incisions using surgical grade tools, and the use of a cannula which is inserted into the targeted area. This procedure can leave significant bruising and swelling.

Because of its less intense approach, patients who are able to achieve their aesthetic goals with CoolSculpting, prefer this method over something surgical.

No Downtime

One of the biggest benefits of CoolSculpting is that it requires no downtime. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment without recovery or limitations on physical activity.

Liposuction, because of its invasive nature, can require several weeks of recovery, and recovering patients are more restricted on what they can or cannot do. This can interfere with work, events, and daily routines. Should there be any complications, the downtime can be extended.

Treatment Time

The average treatment of CoolSculpting can range between 35 min- 75 min, whereas a liposuction procedure can last hours depending on the complexity of the needs. CoolSculpting patients can leave after their treatment. and resume their day. Liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure, but if the treatment area is large, a longer observation period may be required (hours or overnight).

Which Is Right For You?

Every patient is unique. Liposuction may be the best option if you are needing a large amount of fat removed from a large area of your body. CoolSculpting can be a better option if you are looking to target smaller areas for fat eradication and body sculpting.

Factors to consider are cost, time, recovery, and invasive vs. non-invasive. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Krever and her team at Source Medical Aesthetics.

Meeting face to face, Dr. Krever will be able to assess your needs and be able to determine if CoolSculpting is right for you. If it is, then a custom treatment plan will be created to help you achieve your goals.
